As American As...

As American As...

I have never written up a pattern before, so please bear with me as I attempt to make it user-friendly. This started out as a dishcloth pattern, but please don't wash your dishes with the American flag! Consider it a hot pad for your apple pie =)

Materials:
Lily Sugar and Cream Country Red (A)
Lily Sugar and Cream White (B)
Lily Sugar and Cream Bright Navy (C)
Size J crochet hook

Row 1: With A, chain 31 (30 base stitches and one turn-chain). Turn
Row 2: 29 sc, go through stitch 30 and YO as for sc. Pull through. YO with B. Chain 1. Turn. Cut A, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Row 3: With B, 30 sc. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 4: 29 sc, go through stitch 30 and YO as for sc. Pull through. YO with A. Chain 1. Turn. Cut B, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Row 5: With A, 30 sc. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 6: 29 sc, go through stitch 30 and YO as for sc. Pull through. YO with B. Chain 1. Turn. Cut A, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Rows 7&8: repeat rows 3&4
Rows 9&10: repeat rows 5&6
Row 11: repeat row 3
Row 12: 29 sc, go through stitch 30 and YO as for sc. Pull through. YO with C. Chain 1. Turn. Cut B, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Row 13: With C, 11 sc, go through stitch 12 and YO as for sc. Pull through. Bring yarn over to front of work and YO with A. Pull through and sc 18. Chain 1. Turn.
Row 14: With A, 17 sc. got through stitch 18 and YO as for sc. Pull through. Bring yarn over to front of work and YO with C. Pull through and sc 12. Chain 1. Turn. Cut A, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Row 15: With C, 11 sc, go through stitch 12 and YO as for sc. Pull through. Bring yarn over to front of work and YO with B. Pull through and sc 18. (if crocheting in cut ends, pull tails in at this time) Chain 1. Turn.
Row 16: With B, 17 sc. got through stitch 18 and YO as for sc. Pull through. Bring yarn over to front of work and YO with C. Pull through and sc 12. Chain 1. Turn. Cut B, leaving 1-1.5 inch tail to weave or crochet in.
Rows 17&18: repeat rows 13&14
Rows 19&20: repeat rows 15&16
Rows 21&22: repeat rows 13&14
Rows 23&24: repeat rows 15&16
Rows 25&26: repeat rows 13&14. Do not chain 1 or turn on row 26. You may finish off by pulling yarn through last stitch, or you may add a hanging loop by slipping the last stitch, chain 8, and slip stitch down the side of the blue rectangle. Finish off and weave in ends.
